I Can Faith That!

EP 14 | Goal Setting For Better Results: How to Fool Proof Achieving Your Goals

Trish Season 1 Episode 14

Ever feel like your New Year's resolutions are abandoned by March? Well in this episode, I'm sharing a revolutionary approach to personal growth that has transformed my relationship with resolutions: theme-based goal setting. Rather than creating rigid lists of specific achievements, I've chosen two guiding themes for 2025 that shape my decisions without the crushing pressure of metrics.

My first theme is boldness. After years of hiding, 2025 is when I show up as my authentic self. My second theme is rest—the perfect counterbalance to boldness.  I'm challenging myself to discover what genuine relaxation feels like. I'm putting down the superwoman cape!

The beauty of theme-based resolutions is that they're flexible, personalized, and reduce the stress that comes with traditional goal-setting. You define what your themes mean and how they'll show up across different areas of your life.

What themes would transform your 2025? Share your thoughts in the comments and let's reimagine how we approach personal growth together!

Speaker 1:

Hey guys, welcome to another episode of the podcast. I am your host, trish. So our topic today? We're gonna talk about goal setting. Okay, we are going to talk about a different way that you can approach your New Year's resolutions. I know it is 2025.

Speaker 1:

I'm a little late. I'm late to the game. Okay, it's okay, better late than never. What do I do when I never seem to be able to stick to New Year's resolutions? January will come around. Okay, motivated, motivated New year, new me. We fitting to get popping. I'm going to achieve this goal. I'm going to achieve that goal. And by the time March comes around, you done forgot about the goals that you were going to achieve. Or, if you didn't forget about them, baby, okay, you are nowhere near being on track towards achieving them. Right, like some of us are really great at keeping up with New Year's resolutions, some of us not so much. Hear me out.

Speaker 1:

One of the things that I recently heard about and I want to share it with you, because sharing is caring. Okay, we don't gatekeep over here is the idea of setting New Year's resolutions around a theme for the year To have one thing, one or two. I personally wouldn't do more than two. I have two for 2025. I wouldn't do more than that One thing. That's going to be the theme for the year. So, for 2025, my two themes okay, are y'all ready for it? The first one is bold Bold that is one of my themes for 2025. I want to be bold. I want to show up boldly as much as I can. I want to show up boldly in my interactions with my friends. I want to show up boldly in my relationship with my family. I want to do things that make me uncomfortable. I want to explore places and and, and you know, things that I've never explored before. I want to really have an unbelievable faith in what I do and where I go and who I am that I boldly present as my authentic self. I want to be bold in 2025. Self I want to be bold in 2025. And, as much as possible, I want to do things that vary in boldness If I feel like I'm dealing with someone who's not emotionally intelligent.

Speaker 1:

If I feel like you're going to explode. If I feel like you're going to blow up. If I feel like you know you're going to turn this into some you know fight or argument, or you're going to blow up. If I feel like you know you're going to turn this into some, you know, fight or argument, or you're going to, you're going to be extremely like, you're going to retaliate, then I'd rather just not interact with you and, to a certain extent, that is protecting your peace. I'm very big on protecting my peace, um, but sometimes I could express myself more when it comes to those sorts of people, but I just don't. I'd rather just ignore you. I'd rather just keep it pushing. I don't necessarily vocalize the fact that you disrespected me or vocalize the fact that I didn't like something that you said or something like that, right.

Speaker 1:

So being bold for 2025 is the theme, and I want to show up boldly in so many different ways. So some examples of ways that I put that I want to show up boldly. I want to. If someone is saying something that I disagree with, I want to, as much as possible, speak up and let them know that I disagree. Something simple like that, like oh, I don't really agree with that. I want to show up boldly in dating, right. So that's like a goal that I've set for myself is to put myself out there more. Maybe go to, I don't know, wherever the men's is congregate, okay, wherever men congregate, wherever they be congregating, go up there more. I thought about doing things like speed dating, like maybe trying that out in 2025, talking to people and stuff like that, like putting myself out there. And I thought about other ways that I can be bold, right, like my business In 2025, part of me being bold, y'all, is I started my own business, I created my LLC and I am going to be taking one-on-one individual clients under my own business and working with people as a business owner, okay, and an entrepreneur and stepping into entrepreneurship is part of that boldness. Yeah, those are just some examples.

Speaker 1:

Another example for me of living boldly I have always felt uncomfortable wearing certain things. I think they look beautiful on other people. Like, I don't wear dresses, I don't wear shorts, I don't wear skirts, I don't like showing my legs. I just don't like it, right, because I have. What is it called? Um, I know some people call it strawberry legs. There's like a formal word for it Polarisetosis, whatever. I don't know what the official name for it is. Right, but it's also known as strawberry legs. Y'all can Google it if you want to Google it or TikTok it. Okay, I have that and I've always, ever since I was a little girl, been self-conscious about it. And in 2025, baby, we not doing that. Okay, spring is coming up. It isuary 28, we got february, we got march and then we got spring. Okay, summer is coming up and your girl is gonna be in her shorts in 2025. Okay, she's gonna be rocking her dresses and her skirts and her shorts and she ain't playing. Okay, she ain't playing with y'all. She is not playing with y'all in 2025.

Speaker 1:

Okay, by having that theme of bold, I'm not putting so much pressure on myself to achieve, like, a certain number of thing, or to achieve, you know, like does that make sense? What I'm saying? Right, cause I used to put pressure, I used to create goals that were like I want to read 24 books in you know the year, two books a month, just like random goals. That puts a lot of pressure on me. That may or may not be sustainable. That, instead of being something that benefits you, can be something that stresses you out. You know what I mean? Like, having just a theme for the year is so helpful, okay, so the second theme for 2025 for me is rest.

Speaker 1:

So the first theme that I talked about was bold. That is, my theme for the year is to show up big, brave, bold in 2025. And I've already started doing that and it's only been 28 days. Okay, I, you know, I just told you guys I formed my own company. I officially have the fact that I am showing up on social media, that you guys are even seeing my face. If you're even listening to this, if you're even watching this. That is me stepping into being bold, right, because it's unknown for me, it's new, it's not something that I'm used to, it's not something that I'm comfortable with yet. So that was bold. The second theme is rest, and I chose rest because it's hard for me to rest y'all. It is really hard for me.

Speaker 1:

I am a go-getter, okay, and I know a lot of my peoples out here. You can relate to me. When you're a go-getter, you are always, your mind is always running. Your mind is always running, it's always racing. Whether it's at work, like I have all these things that I need to do, I need to accomplish. Whether you're thinking about your life goals like I need to do this, I need to do that, how can I need to accomplish. Whether you're thinking about your life goals like I need to do this, I need to do that. How can I get to the next step in my life? How can I get to the next point in my life?

Speaker 1:

Y'all, I am like I'm just always on the go. My brain is always going and I realize like I need to rest more. I need to just be, I need to be Okay, I need to just be. I need to be superwoman, right, like I need to be. Every like I need to fix everything, I need to be the go-to person for everything. Like no, no, absolutely not. Okay. We putting that cape down in 2025. We putting our superwoman, superman, whatever superhuman cape down and we are practicing self care and self-love and self-gratitude and we're going to be present and we're going to be in the moment and, as much as I possibly can, I'm going to practice rest. Right, and it could look like so many different things. Rest could mean whatever for you, right?

Speaker 1:

Like I'm not a napper, I never take a nap. Okay, I'm not napping unless I'm sick. If I'm sick, I will nap. If I'm not sick, I'm not napping. I just don't do that, right? But maybe that's something I might want to try and explore in 2025. I don't know, like y'all be talking about how naps are amazing. Maybe they are amazing, maybe I need to try that out and and that I don't know, right, so I'm going to try that out.

Speaker 1:

I also am not someone who likes to like chill with people Like I don't, I don't really be liking people like that, right. So, like, I'm always by myself, like I would prefer to be by myself. I am my biggest supporter, I'm my biggest cheerleader, I love me myself and I, okay, I love being in my own company. But maybe resting like learning how to rest with other people, right, might make sense. Like, maybe I need to go to a beach. I don't know. Y'all be loving beaches I've never been in, I don't. I don't know how to swim, I don't care for being in open public spaces, so I don't go to beaches, but y'all be saying it's restful. So maybe I'm gonna try that out. Okay, I'm gonna try it out in 2025. Okay, my, my black butt will be in a beach, okay.

Speaker 1:

So, like, just resting is not something that I do, even when I'm home. It's hard for me to rest right, either like I'm listening to finance podcasts or I'm listening to some educational, like something, or like my brain is going right, either I'm listening to sermons, trying to figure out how can I be a better version of myself, a better me. Like that's not really resting. Resting is literally just chilling right. Like I'm not the chill type, but, baby, in 2025, she fitting to be that okay, she's gonna be chill. She gonna be chilling right, and I love that for me.

Speaker 1:

And so that's just to give you an example of theme-based goals.

Speaker 1:

Instead of doing a bunch of, like, new Year's resolutions and then stressing out because you didn't achieve your resolutions or because you're stressing yourself out over how many things you got to achieve, have a themed-based year and you get to choose what it is for you, you get to define what it means to you and you get to figure out how you want it to show up. I think that that's very helpful and it's a different way and a different like tactic that you can use to set up your resolutions for the year. Test it out, try it out. Let me know if you're on YouTube, let me know what your theme for the year is and how is it going to show up for you. And, like, let's talk about it.

Speaker 1:

I'm always willing to not willing, but I always want to know, like, what are your themes? Maybe I'll choose it for next year, for 2026. Who knows? Alrighty, so that is it for this episode of the podcast, giving you a little something, something a different angle, a different approach, a different way to approach your new year's resolutions. Hopefully you found it helpful. That is it for this episode of the podcast and I will see you guys in the next episode. Bye y'all, thank you.
